Hello,
One of the items on the list of project ideas mentions making a JavaScript interface to Flare. I'm quite interested in working on this as a SoC project. The end of the section states:
There may be some work kicked off pre-SoC on some of this, but there will be plenty left
Does anyone know where I can find more information on what, if anything, has been done so far on that front? I would be interested in talking to whoever is currently working on it. I have searched around for information on this site and on the Flare site, but I haven't found anything yet. If nothing has been done so far, I'd still be excited to work on the project, but my proposal would be somewhat different.
Thanks!

People
Contact both of these people... SitePen was apparently looking at doing some stuff with Flare for a client, but I'm not sure how far they've got.
Get in touch with me if you're having problems getting hold of them.

hi,
Im also intersted on the project "Dojo and the Flare Visualization Toolkit".
Currently im working with a JavaScript based drawing tool, and at the time of my inplant industrial tarining period, i was doing reaserch on several Ajax supported toolkits including Dojo and Flex. But i havent worked with Flare.
This idea of mine can be some different, still i propose to build a library to Dojo which acts like Flare, without making much server calls.
Currently im working on a javaScript drawing tool ( Basic tool to draw house plans ) using java scripts. It only users the network for the begining to download the scripts.
I would be really greatful if you can give me some indepth needs on this topic.
Thank you.

Server-side?
Not quite sure what you mean here - Flare is a client-side toolkit that runs in Flash so there aren't any server-side calls.
Which aspects of Flare interest you and how would you go about implementing them in Javascript?
Re: Server -side?
It was a small misunderstand that i had. But i red through the Flare tutorials and Flare API.
what im proposing is something similar to the Flare which runs by JavaScript (by dojo).
As i figured out flare does animations and many other things in the client end by running set of action scripts. So by writing a set f JavaScript libraries to Dojo will make this the same.
I propose to archive animations, by changing colors of a predefined grid. By naming set of "div tags" to map into the set of pixels will make this screen easily changeable. And other functions should be written to change the colors of this grid and to make the animations.
i will spend some more time with the flare tutorial and the API. Tomorrow im willing to submit a proposal on this topic.
if there is any other misunderstanding of my self is there, i wold be waiting to here them from you.
Thank you.

gsoc Project
hi,
i really like to konw about the scope that you people are looking for. And i do like to give my fully contribution on this project while i have been working with some JavaScript projects.
while the flare libarry is covering a larger scope, are you looking at covering some areas of flare or somekind of a bridge creation between flare and dojo.
hope to see a reply from you soon
thnk you.

Scope
The original project idea we proposed was around making a JS interface to Flare. So Flare would still run in Flash but the tools would be accessible from within Dojo via a clean API. In addition, tying in dojo.data so that data-stores were able to be given to Flare for use would be sensible.
Hope that helps,
- Rob :)
More of a Port than an Interface
I heard back from Matthew and Dylan, and it seems as if the GSoC project wouldn't be making the API.
These quotes are from Matthew:

Idea for Porting
Other than porting this flare libraries into dojo, advancing dojox.gfx will be sounds good.
But again, if we can write an bridge to connect Flare functionalities in to Dojo will be better. This will be something similar to writing an API, but for the developers creating a brige or writting wrappers will be easier.
What do you think of creating the same functionalities of Flare using dojox.gfx
Im working on reading the Flare API, and the dojox.gfx.
Thank you

(Hope to see a reply soon, have to write the proposal..)
Proposal
i have posted a proposal to gsoc 2008. it is available at http://www.flareondojo.blogspot.com/
can u ppl just go thorugh it and give me some feed backs. If the area that im planing to work is not matching your interst plz let me know about that as well.
and while the deadlines are postponed, im working on researching on the topic into the depth
thanx
