I am using Adobe flex and I would like to do some js operations on my ria. What sort of help can I expect from dojo?

Dojo will happily handle the JS side of things for you, but getting back and forth between Flash and JS requires help from the plugin, which until very recently was very slow across that boundary. Brad Neuberg has reported that his work on dojox.flash is going well, but it may not land in time for 1.1. Regardless, choosing Flex for your app makes a whole raft of things harder in terms of inter-component communication and it may be best to search Adobe's documentation regarding their "Flex/Ajax Bridge":
