Dojo Forum Etiquette

This is a community Forum, made entirely of volunteers (perhaps even you!). Please read this, and understand it before posting:

  • Please, post topics in the appropriate forum. For example, If your question is regarding Dijit [or dojo-widgets], it belongs in "Dijit Support".
  • DO NOT post the same topic in multiple forums. By helping us keep the forums clean, you're helping to make it easier to find answers for others.
  • DO read the FAQ! A lot of common questions have been answered numerous times before. Those who answer questions here will assume you've searched the FAQ before asking.
  • DO use the site-wide search. There is a wealth of information buried in this website, just a few keywords away. Chances are, someone has experienced what you are experiencing, and discussion has followed. "Read first, post later."
  • DO NOT re-submit your post multiple times. There is a spam-moderation system in place here, and it occasionally will flag posts as spam and not publish your request immediately. Rest assured, if your post is not selling Xanax, a human will intervene very quickly.
  • DO NOT "bump" your topics. Responding to your own topic with "anyone?" or similar pings makes it harder for those providing support to want to help. If you're not getting help in the forum, you can always try IRC. Feel free, however, to respond to your topics if you:
    • are contributing more information that may clarify your initial request
    • have found a solution elsewhere. perhaps provide a link? others will benefit.
    • are simply in a good 'on-topic' conversation.
  • DO provide as much information as possible about your problem. "Why doesn't [xx] work?" doesn't provide enough information for anyone else to be able to help. Basic information should always include your dojo version, small code snippets, and ideas or theories on what you have tried to get "it" working. Wrap your snippets in <code> tags for formatting reasons.
  • DO assume the person on the other end of the discussion isn't out to make you feel stupid or hurt your feelings. In a lossy medium such as a forum or mailing list it is easy to mis-interpret someone's tone. It will go a lot more smoothly when everyone assumes the other folks are just trying to help with your problem.
  • DO NOT tell others that they shouldn't be asking a question because you don't think it's Dojo related. If the question involves JavaScript, then there is almost always a Dojo solution just a few keystrokes away. Let the community leaders and senior (I use this term to identify time contributed to the community) community members police inappropriate topics.

If you've read to here, and have looked over the FAQ, go ahead and post! Welcome to the world o' Dojo! Always try to help others as you want to be helped.
