Summer of Code

Like a lot of other Open Source projects, the Dojo Foundation is participating in Google's Summer of Code program. When the call for proposals went out, we received a slew of good projects, sometimes several in the same area, and most of which were exciting and important for the Foundation. When the dust of the Google's selection process settled, we were allocated 3 of the projects we had said that we would most like to see funded. With Brian Skinner working to get mentors lined up for all of the projects that we had wanted to see move forward, it was a disappointment both for the mentors and the students who didn't make Google's cut. It was about then that Dylan Schiemann asked "well, why couldn't someone else fund the other students?". Why, indeed. Thanks to Dylan's hard work and the generosity of SitePen and The Mozilla Foundation, seven students in total are being funded to work in Foundation projects this summer. SitePen and Mozilla are each funding two of the projects, and serious progress is being made on many fronts. Here's who's doing what, with whom, and by whose generosity:

Progress updates are being posted to the dojo-soc list, and it's safe to say that we're anticipating some amazing stuff in near-term releases due to the generosity of our sponsors, the hard work of the students, and the time mentors are putting in to help the projects along.
